Luka Dončić Spruces Up Christmas for Lakers with $3,000 Electric Bikes
Laka’s big Christmas surprise came from an unexpected source: Luka Dončić. The Dallas star-turned-Laker delivered a holiday gift haul of more than 100 electric bikes for his teammates and the organization’s staff, revealing the gesture during a Lakers practice on Tuesday.
Lakers coach JJ Redick revealed the surprise to the team, mentioning that Dončić had “something for us.” Early on, one player even wondered if a car might be coming. In the end, the gift was a two-wheeled treat valued at about $3,000 per bike.
The reaction from Dončić’s new and familiar teammates was overwhelmingly positive. A Lakers’ social post captured players enjoying test spins and grinning from ear to ear. “This is insane,” Deandre Ayton exclaimed. “I’m glad I got this bike.” Marcus Smart chimed in, “This is awesome. If I had this bike when I was a kid, I’d be one happy kid.” Others, including Jake LaRavia and Jaxson Hayes, shared thank-you messages on their Instagram Stories.
The Lakers even gave Dončić a playful nickname: “Luka Claus,” posting snapshots from the moment with a wink to Santa.

Dončić has been with the Lakers for just under a year after a blockbuster trade from Dallas in February. He has appeared in 19 games this season, averaging an impressive 34.7 points per game, and he’s been instrumental in propelling the Lakers to a 18-7 record and third place in the Western Conference standings.
But here’s where it gets controversial: gifting athletes expensive gear can spark debates about expectations, priorities, and fairness within a team. Does a personal gift of this magnitude set a standard or create awkward comparisons?
